Thank you Doug for that excellent explanation. Each "distance" provides its own opportunities, and its own restrictions. Hopefully through training we become able to recognize what those are in a completely subconscious level. This is a feeling, it is not a thought or planned action, it just happens. At least that is what I now think I understand, LOL, maybe it too will change.

I've send this piece to my teacher after reading it and the next training we did kihon while walking towards each other and it shed a complete new light on my idea of kihon, my kihon that is... If one thinks his kihon is good, this is a good way of prooving that it's never complete, one should always keep on working on the basics, so thank you for making this clear for me again:)

Thanks for the essay on distance. Abi just talked to me about this yesterday, funny you should talk about it too. Tomorrow night, we are going to do what you suggessted - kihon happo and bo/sword - I'll send a "full report."
All the best,
Stu - Abi Dojo/Oro Valley Shibu

Nice and good thoughts. Thank you for sharing this. I am just a mere kyu-grade, but I sense it while training that if the distance is not being kept correctly the seriousness of the whole technique does not apply at all.
